Dreaming of the cure

A blog devoted to Breast Cancer information and news. Has a very small amount of content at this point, but is focused on helping to spread the awareness of Breast Cancer Causes.

Started in June 2007 and based in San Diego this 50 year old woman is motivated to help make a difference by quilting and raising funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

BeCAUSE breast cancer can happen to anyone, not just your grandmother, your mother, or your aunt
BeCAUSE breast cancer can happen to your daughter, your granddaughter, your sister, your friend

WHY the BeCAUSE Breast Cancer Foundation and Coalition?

I created the BeCAUSE Breast Cancer Foundation and Coalition because as I embarked upon my own quest for information and assistance with breast cancer I came across too many dead ends and frustrating stumbling blocks.

I discovered that there was not enough information to be found for women under the age of 35. (And often times under the age of 40.) There were age restrictions for eligibility of screenings, mammograms, and financial assistance.

Disheartened, I made a desperate plea to the world at large for any guidance and support that I could find. The outreach of virtual strangers was uplifting beyond measure, but even they did not have the answers that I sought.

Time and again, I came across other young women who felt alone and scared and in search of answers. More often then not, they were just like me, falling through the cracks and feeling helpless. My sadness turned to anger at being considered too small of a statistic to count, too few in number to include in existing programs, too young to worry about...

But breast cancer in young women is on the rise. And even one case is one case too many to ignore.

I created the BeCAUSE Breast Cancer Foundation and Coalition to fill in the horrible hole, to close the gap, and eventually, to join forces unified with those already fighting the battle against breast cancer. Together we can win. But winning only happens when no one is left behind.

Through education, support, assistance and change, everyone can look forward to a healthy future without breast cancer.
